An Introduction to Divi Theme for WordPress
What is Divi?
Divi is a VERY POWERFUL theme built specifically for WordPress users. Unlike many themes out there, Divi has a few magical built-in features which give it the decisive edge to be (in our opinion) the MOST POWERFUL website builder theme on the market. As the saying goes “with great power, comes great responsibility”, and Divi handles all of the responsibility for you; as well as giving you the freedom to build and create whatever you can imagine.
So what’s under the hood?
As mentioned above, Divi comes with a plethora of features which include but aren’t limited to:
- Pre-defined layouts
- Full control over every single element
- Unlimited layout options
- One Click Demo imports
- Pixel Perfect Positioning
- Large community
Just a quick peak at what we’re talking about
There are loads of pre-built elements that Divi provides, and hundreds more available through the Divi community that other users have created, some free and some paid. (But even the paid for plugins are well worth the money). See https://www.elegantthemes.com/preview/Divi for further information and examples.
Installing Divi Theme
Installing Your Theme In The WordPress Dashboard
To upload your theme, you first need to log in to your WordPress Dashboard. After you have logged in, click the Appearances > Themes tab to open up the themes page. Click the “Add New” button on the top of the screen.
On the next screen, click the “Upload Theme” button on the top of the page. This will bring you to a new page with an upload link. Click the “Choose File” button to open up a window to browse your computer. Locate the Divi.zip file that you just download from the members area, and select it.
After you have selected the file, the window will close. Click the “Install Now” button to install your theme. The page will re-load, and after the theme has been fully uploaded, you will be presented with an “Activate Theme” link. Click this theme to activate your theme and complete the installation.
Importing Demo Content
Where to Find Them
To get started you will want to add a new page or project and enable the visual builder. At the bottom of the page you will notice a purple circular icon with three dots in a horizontal line. Click this to expand the visual builder’s page settings.
The plus icon in that expanded menu is where you can add items from the Divi Library, including a large variety of premade layouts we have included to help kickstart just about any kind of webpage you need to design.
Premade Layouts List
Clicking the plus icon will bring up a full list of Divi’s premade layouts for you to scroll through and select. You can either load a premade layout into a blank page, an existing layout, or you can replace existing content.
Using The Divi Builder
What Is The Visual Builder?
The Divi Builder comes in two forms: The standard “Back-end Builder” and the front-end “Visual Builder.” Both versions of the builder allow you to do exactly the same thing. The difference between the two is the “Back-end Builder” is confined to the WordPress Dashboard UI and is represented in a block form layout. The “Visual Builder” is essentially what it says on the box; it’s a Visual builder that allows you to make changes while being able to accurately visualize what’s being changed and how it will look to a user of your website.
Visual Builder “Back-end”
Visual Builder “Front-end”
Both versions of the Divi Builder give you exceptionally powerful means to edit your website, and change the layout as well as format in whatever way you can imagine. All elements within the builders are fully customizable with simple “point and click” options, giving even the most novice of users the power and tools to build whatever they want.
